Home Studio Painting Set-up
For online as well as in-person students, here are some examples and tips for setting up a home studio space. A small space can be sufficient to set up a painting station. Here is an example with a 4 ft table. For information about my class offerings, please visit Class Descriptions.

Shadow box with clamp light
Note: An alternative light solution is to have a light stand in the upper left corner lighting both the set up and the canvas at once, with no other light sources in the room. The clamp light on a shadow box works best for rooms that are already lit with multiple sources lights. If you have a lot of room light, let the cardboard flaps work like sun visors to block extra light, rather than taping them down. The most important thing is to see only one strong shadow on the object in the shadow box.
Studio equipment:
The following is a list of items and recommended links if you do not already have them. (No need to get these exact items. Anything approximate that you already have is fine - let me know if you have any questions.)
Shadow box - a roughly 22” x 22” cardboard box. Assemble the box and leave one end open. Tape the open end flaps to the sides as show in the picture above.

Clamp light. Clamp the light to the upper left corner of the shadow box as shown in the picture above.

Easel - any kind of easel you have should probably be sufficient, but if you’re looking to buy a good standard one, this is one I recommend.
Smartphone tripod (for online students only - this will allow me to view your work during the class).
